What is FICL?
The Florida Interscholastic Cycling League (FICL) is a chapter of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) – a California-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Above all, we consider ourselves a youth development organization, whose goal it is to build strong body, strong mind, and strong character in our student athletes, with an unwavering focus on inclusivity and equity in everything we do.
As one of 32 leagues across the country, we organize a mountain bike racing league for middle and high school student athletes.
WHAT IS OUR MISSION ?
We provide high quality, safe and fun mountain bike programs for Florida’s youth. Our team provide an experiential learning opportunity that helps build strong body, mind, and character through an equal and inclusive scholastic-based program.
The Florida Interscholastic League:
- Welcomes and supports diversity in ability, gender, ethnicity, orientation and skill level
- Promotes health and fitness in the youth and their families
- Rides responsibly and safely
- Gets kids and families outside
- Promotes trail stewardship and environmental awareness
Coaching
Adults sometimes doubt their potential to be a NICA coach because they don’t consider themselves to be “a really good mountain biker.”
We want you to know that being a NICA coach is about so much more than your personal mountain biking skills. NICA is a youth development organization dedicated to developing its core values of strong body, mind and character in an inclusive and equitable environment.
Youth development is our goal and mountain biking is the tool.
Teams
Community members, parents, and/or students can start a Florida League youth mountain biking club or team in their local community.
Extensive cycling experience is not necessary – only the desire to introduce young people to the sport of mountain biking. Once you have decided to create a team, the Florida League can help guide you on your way and we will work to provide you with all the tools necessary to create a vibrant team.
