Start a Team

Anyone can start a team – parents, teachers, cycling enthusiasts. No experience is necessary – we provide the training and education needed. Plus, we will connect you with a coach mentor who can support you every step of the way. Starting a team is incredibly rewarding and we want to make it as straightforward as possible.

If you’d like to start a club/team, go to NICA’s Team Starter Kit to get more detailed info. You can also send an email to FL NICA’s League Director Jackie Morrison at jackie@floridamtb.org and we can help you every step of the way. If you’re interested in coaching, please also check out our coach licensing page.

When can I start at team?

The Florida League is a Spring League. Clubs/Teams organize in the Fall with the pre-season begins on October 1st, and the season starts on November 15th.

Clubs/Teams practice and ride together all season long, working towards adventure rides and a Spring race series. The season wraps up two weeks after our last event, typically ending mid May.

Where can I start at team?

The Florida League includes the entire state, and student-athletes attending middle school or high school in Florida are eligible.

No Team? No problem!

While the preference is for every athlete to be a part of the team in order to get the complete NICA experience, competing as an independent rider is an option if there is no nearby teams.

Home-schooled and online students who are enrolled in a Florida online charter school or are home-schooled may join a nearby composite team. If this option is not available to the student-athlete, the online or home-schooled student may compete as an Independent Rider. To let us know you’re interested, please fill out the new rider form.
